2025 Day 2 - New Southern Revival Rye Whiskey

This whiskey also comes from High Wire Distilling Company. This bottle happens to
contain 100% Rye. This company is making a name for itself by using stand out grains
for distilling. The varietal used imparts a sweetness to the rye.
Warning, at 111.2 proof, Revival does start off hot in both the nose and first sip.
If you manage to get passed that, the nose is maple syrup, vanilla and black pepper.
The palette is walnuts, fruit; maybe canned, and more vanilla. The finish is velvety with
woody smoke.
As previously mentioned, this does run hot. It benefits from a rock or 6. As well, this
would make an amazing mixed drink. (Not that I would ever recommend a beautiful
whiskey being used to make a mixed drink, but we pass no judgements)
Bottom line, High Wire Distilling Company should be on your radar. Their products have
been outstanding. I hope you agree.

Phew, no kidding about that first slip - that's a spicey meatball! As it travels down the "mouth-to-stomach whiskey delivery system", this one is gonna warm you from the inside out. Hiding behind all of that heat is a really tasty sip (sweet, but not sugary). Rachel and I both noted hints of caramel and vanilla with a touch of spice. Phase 2 - putting this one on ice. What a difference that made. Now the bold taste comes through without melting one's face off. This is one I would seek out for our bar.
Raquel likes to get a nose-full before I take a first sip of each day: on this one, the first thing she said was, "Maple syrup and honey..." She's getting good at this. Now, I'm absolutely the whiskey drinker who respects the liquid. I mean, if I'm doing a whiskey cocktail of any kind, I'm expecting a mid-shelf Bulleit or Old Granddad or something like that. Something you can yell over a 6-deep bar and get easily and quickly from a grateful bartender. Anything on Paul's list? That's three rocks or one of those giant, single Japanese rubik-cube things pressed on a heater with a geometric design in it. And that's it. My private club's bar does NOT have a…
Picked up the nutty whisper but got hit over the head with heat and smoke.
Ok this nose is comin' in hot like Rudolph! Really enjoying the rye expression. Definitely picking up the maple syrup.
Loved this. Spicy rye that worked perfectly with the ginger snaps I enjoyed it with.
