2025 Day 4 - Blue Run Kentucky Straight Golden Rye Whiskey

Blue Run comes from Georgetown, Kentucky. Each of the gorgeous bottles is emblazoned with a Viceroy Butterfly, the state butterfly of Kentucky. Although founded in 2020, Blue Run has made a name for itself with this straight rye whiskey. Batch 1 won the World Spirits Competition. We will be tasting batch 2.
This one benefits from sitting in the glass for a few minutes to allow it to breathe.
The mash bill is undisclosed and non-age stated. This rye comes in at 95 proof.
The nose is cinnamon, honey and a faint vanilla sugar scent. The pallet is spicy with brown sugar. The spice leads to the feeling of a baked caramel apple bread. The finish carries that spice, leaving me with an orange flavor that lingers with that spicy rye.
If you enjoy this one, Blue Run has several different bottles in the realm of Rye and Whisky. I truly enjoyed this bottle so much that I Picked up more of their other selections. Those may show up in a future review.

Ready for #4, once we finally defeated the wax (tools were involved) we were ready! Whiskey in glass...check. Letting whiskey breathe in the glass....check. First sip... yum. We both picked up on sweeter notes that gave way to a spice aftertaste. Honestly this surprised me for a rye, but I enjoyed the glass to the final sip.
I like my ryes to sting a little. Just a little. And up through the back of my nose after a sip. Y'know what I mean? While this one doesn't do that, I'll agree with the rest of the group here: smooth and sippable. A good breakfast rye!
Hoo boy. One doesn't think of rye as sophisticated but this one demands your full attention. Despite what many experienced whisky drinkers say, I think I prefer sub 100 proof. This is a beautiful sipping Rye.
This came off as very soft for me. I was surprised it was a Rye. It's very nice, but not what I expected. Won't stop me from enjoying every drop though!
Johanna's first comment was apples.. we can see caramel apple bread. The rye doesn't come through as strongly as the revival but does come through in the finish for me. Overall very nice, balanced rye. Might the favorite so far.
