This single barrel straight rye has an 84.8 proof point. Although it is common for rye to be really spicy in the front and I feel they have done a great job of rounding the edges.
The color is a dark amber and it has beautiful legs in the glass. The nose is full of rye spice maple, oak and green apple.
On the palette I get more of that oak, orange and cinnamon bun. It's finish is not overly sweet and is not overly hot in its mouth feel. It is a well-balanced rye and would be a wonderful addition to anyone’s collection.

Starting blind I smelled nice campfire smoke and tasted cinnamon and anise. Certainly a nice whiskey but not one I’ll seek out. Read description and not surprised - something about Michter’s style has never quite agreed with me.
Nice blend of spice, caramel, and oak :)

Who cares. Most of it's true and if you hang out with me at said bar long enough, I'll tell you the whole entire history of Michter's and nobody will ever get hurt. And it changes a little each time I tell the story. I also do the Leonardo meme thing (attached) every time I see a bottle of Michter's in a scene in the "Billions" series on Showtime (if you haven't seen it, put…
I'm picking up on the oak and the spice here. Very flavorful and not much heat. More of that rye taste when I think of ryes.
This is what I look for in a nice rye whisky - strong smells of oak and taste that doesn't lean too sweet nor does it veer too far into the bitter/roasted camp. Presents with a subtle amount of heat but nothing that will having you reach for salvation in a mixer. Michter's Small Batch Bourbon has had a revolving spot on my bar for years, I might have to start making room for it's rye brethren.
