2024 Day 7 - Widow Jane Lucky Thirteen

There is a lot to say about New York and their water. They make some of the best pizza and bagels in the world. This is attributed to the water. I think we need to add whiskey to the list of great things that come from this amazing city.

We had the good fortune of visiting the distillery in Brooklyn. We (I) tasted some amazing brown liquids and came home with quite a few bottles. When I saw lucky 13 making its rounds in the Bay Area, I thought it would be a great add to the Advent Calendar.

At 93 proof, Lucky Thirteen is a wonderful drink.

It has a medium amber color. The nose is black tea, brown sugar and vanilla.

I note on the palette orange peel, burnt sugar and walnuts. The finish his dark cherry, oak and caramel corn.

Overall, this is a very fine bottle of whiskey. After you have tried, I hope you agree, then run out and get yourself a bottle before it’s gone. Even better, make a trip to Brooklyn and drink it from the place where it was made.

Oh, and get a slice and a bagel…

Let us know what you  think in the comments.

As an aside, I placed the bottles in order. I believe they get better, as we count down to Christmas Day.

I am both baffled and in high anticipation that the WJ Lucky13 is 7/13 in a scale you feel will get better! I’ve been in love with the WJ 10 for a while and the 13 is a real treat! Orange peel and caramel for sure. Dark chocolate with Hazelnut was what I enjoyed with this. WOW, what will the next 6 be like???

I call out Linton and his enthusiasm for this distillery. This Shit rocks!! We made a whole day out of it, to travel to the Bronx from our hotel in Manhattan. I tasted everything they had offer and brought some prized bottles home; which I was excited to share.

Go figure, secrets are hard to keep and Widow Jane is now out in the en masse. I could not be happier.

Please, please, please, make this a destination. You will not regret the experience.

I hope I'm not ruining anything coming up, but when the guys at Hudson Whiskey NY first launched their lines of bourbon, I actually got in an online argument with them on my blog about whether or not any whiskey made outside of Bourbon County, KY could be called a bourbon. After all these years, I do stand corrected: New York can make a great bourbon and this is one of them! Now, about New York water: Paul's right--it's so good that if they could bottle that shit and sell it...oh, wait...

We are a day behind! I think we will fix that this weekend.

So, now we get what all the fuss was about when you came back from NY and told us about Widow Jane. This is so easy to drink with lots of good flavors. I don't have the lingo to describe what I am tasting, but I really like it.
