Day 2 - Bulleit Blenders' Select

At 100 proof, this blend of three bourbons is smooth. It’s been aged for nine years in new charred oak barrels.

The nose is vanilla, toffee, peanuts, and spice, with a slight hint of tobacco.

The pallet is rich with vanilla, toasted oak, dark cherries, and rye spice. The rye carries through the finish with a bit of citrus, grain, and caramel. A drop or two of water brings out a buttery mouth feel.

This is a first release in the Bulleit Blenders’ Select Series, and no doubt will this be the last.

First thing I noticed from the nose was orange. I guess this was neural translation of "citrus". On the taste definitely caramel. With a bit of water even more flavor, I started to get this chocolate-orange moment (one of my favorite combinations). Lovely whiskey. A dessert like experience!

After reading others comments thought I should add. The 100 proof is really high. I think technically this would be designated "cask strength", something that you dilute with water in a decanter. On a camp trip, a friend and I once finished a 100 proof Macallan. Holy shit, the next day, I thought I had been run over by a truck. It was only after suffering this horrendous hang over calamity…

My first impressions on the nose were the fields of Flanders after a Spring rain, maraschino cherry firewood, strong alcohol. I noticed caramel after adding a few drops of water. The first taste was warm oak fire with strong chimney flow. The second strong alcohol with sweetness at the fringes. The third taste was, broad, oak table and acetone. It was better with some water added. A burly whiskey.

More compact than the Garrison Brothers. Some heat up front leads to the honey, only a hint of fleshy fruit, and then a big cedar bomb on the close. No peanuts in there for me. It's bracing and motivating. A real chest beater.

I'm going to have to wait for tomorrow and then have a double tasting side by side.

Monday is the day of the week where I like to pretend I'm not an alcoholic and don't drink. Can't wait for tomorrow. What's a good way to refresh the palette between Bourbons?
