I ordered these bottles and Paul rolled with it. I hope you like it! - Meliza
I know this bottle carries a very big name behind it. There are a lot of celebrity spirits hitting the market, but this one seems different than the rest. It's really good.
At 88 Proof, it is being marketed as a rye, which at 51% is. The other 49% is barley. What I found interesting was there was no corn used to add sweetness. But I think by using the cherry casks, that fruitiness was successful.
The color is a dark gold. The nose is sweet and fruit forward. I note toffee, cherry, and dark chocolate.
The palette its spicy up front with notes of oak, caraway and rye.
The finish is dried fruit, slightly nutty and sherry.
Overall, not a bad bottle. I look forward to hearing your opinions in the comments.
Blind I have to admit wasn’t a fan. I preferred her halftime show! ;-) Definitely get the rye, caraway, sherry. Alcohol/hot finish. Glad to have tried, gorgeous bottle..
So, I wasn't sure how this bottle would be received. But as Meliza said, I rolled with it!
In my research, I became aware of Beyonce's whiskey of choice was Japanese.
Quite an interesting stretch for her to enter a rye into the American Market.
Regardless, I was surprised. Not a bad entry into the whiskey world.
On an aside, thank you for all of your thoughtful comments and input.
Starts sharp, dulls back to a nutty flavor, and leaves you with this sweet tea leaf after taste
I did NOT have "Whisky by Beyonce" on my 2024 bingo card of things I would have expected out of this year. That said, I find it to be a nice entry whiskey for folks trying something new. It's lower proof doesn't melt you from the inside out and the taste is very balanced (not too sweet, not to oaky). Not a bad find by Meliza!
OK, I had to look: this is Beyoncé's whiskey--I had no idea! But Paul, you're right: it's actually good. And I think we serious whiskey drinkers say it that way because we all just assume that the celeb is just slapping his/her name on some rando bottle with absolutely zero connection to it other than the cell number of a publicist that both they and the distiller know by heart by the time the marketing deal is approved. On the other hand, Queen Bee claims that her great-grandfather was a southern moonshiner who hid his bottles in tree trunks for his friends to find and enjoy and that's why she named this bottle after him. I can get down with…
