I was intrigued by the bottle, but all I knew was Frank August was in Kentucky. The bottle looked sophisticated and after tasting it, I thought it would be a good one to share.
It has a light amber color. The nose speaks to cinnamon, Peach, light pepper. The pallet feel has butter, vanilla, apricot and some rye bread spices.
At100 proof, not a bad bottle.
This has a lovely sweet nose. And a lotta pepper for me going down.
Not a fan of this one not going to seek it out. All mid-palate pepper and too much cinnamon for moi. No finish just heat. Tasted neat then a couple drops of water. Better neat - but still not my jam.
There are two kinds of Wednesday nights in San Francisco: there's the hangout in the garage, working on hot rods and generally talking a whole lot of shit about everything from the price of cigarettes to the mayoral race, and then there's the downtown bar meetup, where we're buying rounds, winning friends and influencing people. This Frank August is the bourbon that I'd like to think is a lot like me: equally comfortable in a 2-car tandem in the Excelsior and the bar at the Grand Lodge of California on Nob Hill. And I agree with Paul: several rounds can be poured and nobody is complaining. This one definitely tastes like another...
The vanilla and sweetness stands out to me on this one. Again not too much heat which I prefer. I think this is my favorite of the 3 so far.
Tonight's round was an interesting choice. For a bourbon from an unknown distillery/brand (at least to me), it sure punches above its weight. The taste leaves you with sweeter notes of vanilla or caramel/butterscotch. Not too much heat and it settles down nicely with a cube - very balanced. A perfect contender for a Saturday night sip!
