2024 Day 2 - Willet’s Pot Still Reserve

This bottle was included in our previous edition. It was good enough that I thought it should be reintroduced.

The bottle is obnoxious. It’s shaped like, well, a pot still and takes up far too much real estate.

However, what is in the bottle makes up for the show. It’s a single barrel at 94 proof that drinks creamy and smooth.

It has a deep copper color. The nose is a heavy brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, citrus (lemon), and buttered popcorn. The pallet is honey, caramel with mild coffee, and butterscotch. The finish shows off the buttered popcorn again with a spice. Really smooth -- this one should be tried neat.

A really great value for a premium whiskey.

Yum! Neat only for sure. This is all tip of the tongue for me, just like to let it sit in my mouth for a few beats. Clean but not lingering finish but that’s nitpicking. I need a fireplace that just has those glowing embers for this one…

Ah, it's so good to catch up with old friends. Like Paul showing up with the box carrying it, this Willit's comes back like the friend you might not see in a year or three, but can jump right back into the same conversation you left off with, the last time you saw him. Now, I'll admit: I may have fucked up the reunion a little with the standard 3 small rocks I always drink whiskey with, so forgive me, Paul--I'll try to do better. But goddammit, I'll be so fancy when I order this from the only shelf that this bottle won't fall off of at the bar...and I'll toast Paul wherever I happen to be in that moment.

I liked this one quite a bit. Smooth and sweet. Doesnt have much burn either which I prefer.

We are catching up too! I don’t know Cas, but much respect for breakfast whiskey.

Admittedly, not a whiskey drinker, but digging this. Poured myself a second little taste. Thank you!

Ok, admittedly we missed out on enjoying this with the class last night due to dinner obligations. Catching up this morning I will say this - it makes a damn fine breakfast whisky to start the day (it's 5 0'clock somewhere)! Regardless of the internet hate I've enjoyed this one for years and the only reason it's not a staple on our bar is the obnoxious bottle size that Paul stated. This presents as more of a whiskey aftertaste with just enough corn mash to play on the Bourbon team.
