In June of 2023 we hosted a small event. It was our version of a whiskey fest. There were many bottles and some amazing flavors. The standout and winner of the tasting was a lovely bottle introduced by Matt Wellek.

I thought that was a great bottle to start the calendar.

It has a deep amber color. In the nose is Raisin, clove, orange, vanilla and a bit of taffy. In the palette there are sweet tones of Maple brown sugar, light citrus and leather. The finish is salty caramel. Considering the proof, this is not hot as most ryes can be. Feel free to add a drop of water or a cube. I love this one neat!!

At 111.6 proof, this is the smoothest and most incredible rye I have ever had. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you, Matt, for introducing me to this bottle.

This one should be added to everyone's collection.

Let us know what you think in the comments.

Most straight ryes are too harsh for me. I like a high rye content bourbon. This one is great neat but I like it even better with a few drops of water. A sipper not a mixer indeed!

I'll start off this year by admitting that I'm a knock-a-day whiskey drinker. Bulleit. Rocks. Thank you very much, barkeep. And that's when the bar is 4 deep on a Thursday: it's easy to yell over the din and the bartender always appreciates a nuthin-fancy drinker. But here's the thing: this Peerless Rye makes me want to Be Better™. With rocks, it's opening up and I'm nodding my head with every nose, palette and finish Paul guides me down. I want to start wearing a decent suit more often. Two words: pocket square. I want to call Al's Attire and commission a pair of black cap-toes. This rye compels me to head down to the bar at the Top O'…

I'm starting late to the calender so just had this one tonight. Def hits hot up front. But I find a lot of ryes are like for me. Evens out nicely after that.

Wooh! This one is coming in hot for me. Had to add a drop of water. Now, we’re talking. Love the sweetness.

This was a tasty treat that we both enjoyed! I'm partial to rye and this presented with a very smooth aftertaste - a bit surprising given the 112 proof of liquid warmth this is. Definitely a sipping whisky that tames nicely with a cube.
